History:Considered some of the very premier Caucasian carpets, Shirvan carpets have a short, even and soft pile with very detailed knotting and intricate design.The majority of these carpets are small, with fine hand spun wool throughout, though there is some of use of cotton in wefts and side finishing. The dyes are exceptıonal and sophistıcated.The color range is considerable, favouring rich indigo blues with red as the less common colour.Due to the respect for both Shirvan colours and designs, carpets from these groups are now being successfully reproduced by many other weaving centres. Though less finely woven than the old antique pieces from the Caucasus these modern weavings maintain the same high standards of design and colours as the originals and are extremely popular as decorative carpets.
