These rugs were always made for a young womans’ marriage dowry and although she would have completed the majority of the weaving ,mothers, aunts, sisters etc would also have joined in over the long winter months to create this beautiful Turkish rug. As I source these rugs  locally the prices for such a huge amount of work are generally very reasonable .

The Turkish village of Taspınar (Stone Spring) and Arisaman are considered among the important weaving centers of Cappadocia. Here in the homes,carpets are hand knotted, using high lustrious quality handspun wool, careful medium knotting and clear natural colours that would have been created from the plants and flowers common to her area.

Typical for Taspinar and Arisaman are carpets with very bold elongated, almost oval medllions with either a more floral or geometrical double prayer medallions. The palette is dominated by rich natural local dyes of warm red and indigo blue tones with highlights of olive and coffee colours.

Becuase of the use of natural dyes there are many changes of color and tomne through out which creates a delightful and sort after originality to this piece .
